New TSA Screening System Underway at Reid International Airport
The Department of Homeland Security along with the Transportation Security Administration have announced a trial for a new self-service TSA screening system, beginning at Harry Reid International Airport in January.
Introducing the 'Screening at Speed' system
A new initiative dubbed "Screening at Speed" is in progress to transform the airport security screening into a minimal contact procedure, thus mitigating unnecessary interactions with TSA officers.
"Taking inspiration from self-ordering systems in fast food and restaurants, this self-service screening will allow members of the Trusted Traveler Program to navigate the security screening process independently," voiced Screening at Speed Program Manager, John Fortune.
"Using these standalone passenger and carry-on screening systems, we can minimize the number of pat-downs and bag inspections. This not only frees up TSAs for busier aspects of screening operations but also has garnered positive feedback during initial testing" commented Fortune.
Setting up the pilot program
The pilot program, under installation at Reid International, is located at the Innovation Checkpoint, an area devoted to enhancing aviation security technologies, situated at Terminal 3's Zero Level.
As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided in due course.
